2023년, fio의 희연과 지호는 졸업 학년이 되어 디자인 졸업 전시를 직면했습니다. 당사자가 되자 그동안 가볍게 넘겼던 디자인 졸업 전시의 고질적인 문제들이 눈에 들어왔습니다. 작품을 감상하는 데 배경/맥락 정보를 이해하는 과정이 중요함에도, 도저히 정보에 집중할 수 없는 환경에 작품이 놓여있다든지, 전시 준비 위원회가 1년 동안 축적한 경험과 문제 의식이 다음 해로 전수되지 않고 졸업과 동시에 공중분해 되는 등의 문제가 그 예입니다.

디자인 졸업 전시의 문제를 해결할 공론장이 필요하다고 생각했습니다. 뉴졸스라는 임의의 단체를 통해 의견을 기록하고, 해결책을 제시하고, 의견을 나눌 수 있는 소박한 공간을 제안했습니다.

In 2023, Heeyeon and Jiho from fio faced the design graduation exhibition. As they became directly involved, they began to notice the chronic issues that had been repeated in previous design graduation exhibitions. For example, the environment in which the works were displayed often made it impossible to focus on the background/context information essential for appreciating the pieces. Additionally, the experiences and insights accumulated by the exhibition preparation committee over the year would dissipate upon graduation, failing to be passed on to the next year.

We realized the need for a public forum to address these issues. We proposed a modest space through an fictional organization called Newjols, where opinions could be recorded, solutions suggested, and discussions held.
